As part of the Usability Engineering group, Ben is responsible for conducting user research, providing human factors guidance, and leading a transition to user-centered design at RightNow Technologies—a leading Customer Relationship Management (CRM) vendor handling over 1 billion customer interactions in 2007. He holds an MS in Human-Computer Interaction and is a board-certified Associate Human Factors Professional.

Bryan McClain
Bryan is passionate about connecting with people and understanding their experiences and perspectives. Bryan co-founded Metric Lab with Demetrius Madrigal after doing research at NASA Ames Research Center for five years. While at NASA, Bryan worked on a variety of research studies, encompassing communication and human factors and interacting with hundreds of participants. As a part of his background in communication research, he received extensive training in communication methods, including certification-level training in police hostage negotiation. Bryan uses his extensive training in advanced communication methods in UX research to help ensure maximum accuracy and detail in user feedback. Bryan enjoys innovating user research methods that integrate communication skills, working with such companies as eBay, Kodak, Microsoft, and BAE Systems.

Demetrius Madrigal
Demetrius truly believes in the power of user research—when it is done well. With a background in experimental psychology, Demetrius performed research within a university setting, as well as at NASA Ames Research Center before co-founding Metric Lab with long-time collaborator, Bryan McClain. At Metric Lab, Demetrius enjoys innovating powerful user research methods and working on exciting projects—ranging from consumer electronics with companies like Microsoft and Kodak to modernization efforts with the U.S. Army. Demetrius is constantly thinking of new methods and tools to make user research faster, less costly, and more accurate. His training in advanced communication helps him to understand and connect with users, tapping into the experience that lies beneath the surface.

Junaid Asad
User Experience Lead at IBM Global Business Services, Bangalore India
Junaid’s UX design experience encompasses both the services and themanufacturing industries. In addition to his having worked on social media initiatives with organizations like IBM and HP, he has done user interface design for Web applications and products and worked on new technologies in both mature and emerging markets, business process analysis and re-engineering, and human performance assessment and improvement. Junaid has graduate degrees in both Human Factors Psychology and Electrical Engineering and brings a multidisciplinary approach to his work. He is also a Certified Usability Analyst (CUA).

Kyle Soucy
As the founding principal of Usable Interface, a consulting company specializing in product usability and user-centered design, Kyle Soucy has created intuitive user interfaces for a variety of products and Web sites. Her clients range from pharmaceutical giants like Pfizer to publishing powerhouses like McGraw-Hill. Kyle is the Founder and Past President of the New Hampshire Chapter of the Usability Professionals’ Association (NH UPA); has served as the Chair of PhillyCHI, the Philadelphia Chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery’s Special Interest Group on Computer-Human Interaction (ACM SIGCHI), and is the local UXnet Ambassador for New Hampshire. She is passionate about the continued growth of the usability and user experience design community.

Michele Marut
Michele was formerly a Human Factors Specialist with the medical manufacturing company Respironics. Since 1999, Michele has been applying Human Factors principles to the design and evaluation of a range of products. Her experience includes usability testing kitchen and bath products at Kohler and making Navy ships more user friendly at General Dynamics: Bath Iron Works. She currently serves as the UXnet Local Ambassador and IxDA Local Coordinator for Pittsburgh and chairs the Environmental Design Technical Group of HFES. Michele holds an M.S. in Human Environment Relations from Cornell University.

Peter Hornsby
Peter has been actively involved in Web design and development since 1993, working in the defense and telecommunications industries; designing a number of interactive, Web-based systems; and advising on usability. He has also worked in education, in both industry and academia, designing and delivering both classroom-based and online training. In his
role as Senior Information Architect at Friends Provident, Peter works with a multidisciplinary team, including information architects, analysts, and accessibility specialists, setting
standards for user experience and promoting a user-centered design process within the business. Peter has a PhD in software component reuse and a Bachelors degree in human factors, both from Loughborough University, in Leicestershire, UK. He has presented at international conferences and written about reuse, eLearning, and organizational design.

Steve Psomas
Steve has specialized in Web application design and development, with six years of experience as a user experience designer and four years in UI component engineering, working at Responsys, Neoforma, Intuit, Clear Ink, and Maus Haus. Steve is currently responsible for all user experience design for the Responsys Interact® application. Steve has developed and presented an audioconference on How to Succeed as an Interactive Designer in a Rich Internet Application World.
In his work as a designer, he also draws inspiration from his prior experience as a technical writer, teacher, and coach. Steve graduated from the University of San Diego with a B.A. in English. He is a member of UPA and SIGCHI.

Tobias Komischke
Tobias has been working in the area of user experience for over 10 years. Currently, he is responsible for the user experience on the inside—development—and outside—training and consulting—at Infragistics. At Siemens, he held senior R&D positions at Corporate Technology, Corporate Research, and Medical Solutions, in both Germany and the U.S. Tobias earned a PhD in Economics and Social Sciences, from Universität Kassel, in Germany. He has reviewed papers for several international technical journals and conferences and has published more than 30 articles. He is a member of ACM, HFES, and UPA.
