Andy Polaine
In addition to working as an interaction designer, service design researcher, and writer, Andy is a lecturer and research fellow in service design at Lucerne University of Applied Arts and Sciences in Switzerland. Formerly, Andy was a producer at Razorfish in the UK. He next moved to Australia, where he started the interactive department of the visual effects company Animal Logic. He was also a senior lecturer in interactive media at the College of Fine Arts, The University of New South Wales, Sydney, and head of the School of Media Arts. Andy has also been a guest professor at the Bauhaus University in Weimar. He recently completed his PhD, exploring interactivity and play, has published more than 160 articles and papers as a journalist and academic, and is coauthor of Service Design: From Insights to Implementation, published by Rosenfeld Media.

David Heller Malouf
A leader in the interaction design community, with a passion for evangelizing and teaching interaction design, Dave is currently Professor of Interaction Design
in the Industrial Design
Department of the Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD).
Previously, he was a Senior Interaction Designer for Motorola Enterprise Mobility, where he designed user interfaces for desktop, Web, and embedded software and hardware. Motorola was the last stop in his 15-year journey practicing interaction design, information architecture, and user interface design, working primarily in the enterprise space. Dave led the founding of the Interaction Design Association (IxDA)
and was its first Vice President. In 2008, he co-chaired Interaction 08, in Savannah. He frequently writes, speaks at conferences, and teaches workshops on topics relating to interaction design.

Jeff Johnson
Jeff has worked in the field of human-computer interaction since 1978, as a user interface designer and implementer, engineering manager, usability tester, and researcher at companies such as Cromemco, Xerox, US West, Hewlett-Packard Labs, and Sun Microsystems. His product usability consulting firm, UI Wizards, offers user interface design, usability reviews, usability testing, and training services. After graduating from Yale University with a BA in Experimental Psychology, Jeff earned a PhD
in Developmental and Experimental Psychology at Stanford University. He has taught in the Computer Science Departments at Stanford University and Mills College. In 2006, he was an Erskine Teaching Fellow at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand. Jeff has published numerous articles and book chapters on various topics relating to human-computer interaction, as well as on the impact of technology on society. He frequently gives talks and tutorials on usability and user interface design at conferences and at companies. Jeff is the author of Designing with the Mind in Mind: Simple Guide to Understanding User Interface Design Rules (2010), GUI Bloopers 2.0: Common User Interface Design Don’ts and Dos (2007), Web Bloopers: 60 Common Design Mistakes and How to Avoid Them (2003), and GUI Bloopers: Don’ts and Dos for Software Developers and Web Designers (2000).

Mona Patel
For over 15 years, Mona Patel’s ability to strategize quickly and customize solutions has set her apart in the industry. In 2009, she started Motivate Design, then two years later, UX Hires, to create a place where clients could get what they need rather than what an agency needs to sell. In short, she was disrupting before it was cool. She has delivered UX strategies and in-house usability programs to hundreds of clients through consulting and training. Before starting Motivate Design, Mona had been a Vice President at Human Factors International (HFI) and a Research Scientist at American Institutes for Research. She is a skilled practitioner of usability testing, expert review, and interaction design for Web sites, Web applications, intranets, and consumer products. Mona currently teaches at Parsons, The New School for Design, where she focuses on showing students the value of good design research. Mona holds an M.S. in Marketing Communications from Boston University and a B.S. in Engineering Psychology from Tufts University.

Peter Hornsby
Peter has been actively involved in Web design and development since 1993, working in the defense and telecommunications industries; designing a number of interactive, Web-based systems; and advising on usability. He has also worked in education, in both industry and academia, designing and delivering both classroom-based and online training. In his role as Senior Information Architect at Friends Provident, Peter works with a multidisciplinary team, including information architects, analysts, and accessibility specialists, setting standards for user experience and promoting a user-centered design process within the business. Peter has a PhD in software component reuse and a Bachelors degree in human factors, both from Loughborough University, in Leicestershire, UK. He has presented at international conferences and written about reuse, eLearning, and organizational design.
