Our Mission

Since the founding of UXmatters, we’ve gradually expanded our mission of serving the needs of the UX community by offering content that serves both UX professionals and stakeholders such as business people, product managers, and front-end developers. Increasingly, User Experience has become a critical factor in business success. UX professionals sometimes go on to pursue careers in product management; and the activities and deliverables of UX strategy, product strategy, and business strategy overlap. More and more UX designers are doing design in code, and many front-end developers are now working within UX teams or becoming UX designers. We would like to encourage business people, product managers, and front-end developers who are passionate about User Experience to contribute articles to UXmatters. Our mission is to:

Endorsements of UXmatters

“Publishing an article is admirable. Publishing an issue of a magazine is impressive. But publishing a magazine over the long haul—as UXmatters has done—well, that is truly remarkable. I’m not sure how they’ve managed it, but Pabini and her team have served consistently high-quality content to the UX community for 12 years. We’re all the better for it, and we should all do what it takes to ensure that UXmatters will be there for us over the coming decade.”—Louis Rosenfeld, Publisher at Rosenfeld Media, coauthor of Information Architecture for the World Wide Web and Information Architecture for the Web and Beyond, and author of Search Analytics for Your Site

“As the world rushes toward its hand-held, internetworked, ubiquitous computing future, dominance in the software world shifts from technologists to those who can deliver technology to humans. That’s the role of the designer. Each UXmatters writer is an experienced deliverer-of-design and possesses the skills to communicate their valuable methods and insights. What they say is relevant not only because it is perceptive, useful, and correct, but because, more and more, the user experience matters.”—Alan Cooper, coauthor of About Face 3: The Essentials of Interaction Design and About Face 2.0: The Essentials of Interaction Design, author of About Face: The Essentials of User Interface Design and The Inmates Are Running the Asylum: Why High-Tech Products Drive Us Crazy and How to Restore the Sanity, and Co-Founder and Co-Chairman of Cooper.

“For 12 years, UXmatters has been one of the most important publications for user-experience professionals. It features superb articles by top practitioners, and I am astounded by how much it has taught me over the years. The design community needs this magazine. The business community needs it, too—although they are probably unaware of its existence—and the general public can learn a lot as well. We have reached a stage when it is vital that everyone should understand the importance of User Experience—not just a few technologists and designers.”—Eric Reiss, CEO of FatDUX Copenhagen and The FatDUX Group and author of Usable Usability

UXmatters is a top content destination for design and User Experience. The magazine provides leading-edge thinking, perspectives, and case studies from an accomplished and international list of practitioners. UXmatters provides relevant perspectives on the latest, on-the-pulse trends in User Experience, making the magazine a first point of call for UX research, strategy, and design practitioners who are looking to keep up to date or learn new thinking to keep apace with a fast-moving, volatile digital world.”—Simon Norris, Founder & CEO of Nomensa and Organizer of Interact London and Collaborate Bristol

UXmatters has been my go-to source for understanding the state of the user experience industry for over a decade. Pabini and crew have dedicated themselves to taking the UX pulse and serving up content that meets the needs of a broad range of UX strategy, design, and research professionals. UXmatters has been an excellent media partner for UX STRAT since our inception in 2013. It’s important to keep resources like UXmatters alive and thriving.”—Paul Bryan, UX STRAT Organizer

UX obviously matters, and UXmatters [publishes] material contributed by some of the top creative minds in the industry.”—Robert Reimann, coauthor of About Face 3: The Essentials of Interaction Design and About Face 2.0: The Essentials of Interaction Design, Senior Manager, Experience Design, at athenahealth, and founding President of Interaction Design Association (IxDA)

“The UXmatters magazine has been a big success—a powerful source of information and inspiration for user experience professionals around the world.”—Peter Morville, President of Semantic Studios, author of Ambient Findability and Intertwingled; coauthor of Search Patterns, Information Architecture for the World Wide Web: Designing Large-Scale Web Sites, and Information Architecture for the Web and Beyond

UXmatters—there’s a great article set there. I use a lot of them as references in my workshops and check every fortnight to include them in the UX Australia newsletter. A great resource for people new to UX or experienced UX folks who want to catch up on new methods.”—Donna Spencer, Lead UX Designer at Australian Broadcasting Corporation and author of Card Sorting: Designing Usable Categories and A Practical Guide to Information Architecture

“User experience is a field with dramatic breadth and impressive depth. As more and more professionals from outside of user experience are trying to participate in the field—marketing people and engineers most particularly—the need for knowledge in this already under-represented field continues to grow. UXmatters has a twelve-year track record as being one of the few go-to resources for best practices and contemporary insights on the discipline. With a stable of authors and published articles that are impressive in both their content and editorial rigor, UXmatters boasts a highly respected team.”—Dirk Knemeyer, Chairman at Involution Studios

UXmatters is a great publication. Five years ago, when the term user experience was still new and largely unheard of, UXmatters helped to bring together a community of visual designers, interaction designers, information architects, UI engineers, and usability practitioners through its publication of thoughtful essays, articles, and columns focused on user-centered design. For experts who care deeply about the human in human-computer interaction, and about making our digital world a place that’s friendly, understandable, productive, and helpful, there’s no doubt that UXmatters has helped move the industry forward. UXmatters will continue to help drive our burgeoning industry, providing insightful resources for people creating digital products and services.”—Jonathan Follett, Principal at GoInvo

UXmatters is well known for a variety of quality content for interaction designers, usability professionals, user experience strategists—any professional who cares about user experience.”—Colleen Jones, CEO at Content Science and author of CLOUT

“Most online magazines are weak imitations of their printed ancestors: they don’t take much advantage of their platform other than perhaps providing links between articles. In contrast, UXmatters represents a big step in the direction of a true online publication: it uses the medium to present information that would be difficult to present in print. Thus, UXmatters is not only about enhancing the user experience, it actually does it.”—Jeff Johnson, PhD, Principal Consultant at Wiser Usability; coauthor of Designing User Interfaces for an Aging Population and Conceptual Models: Core to Good Design; author of Designing with the Mind in Mind: Simple Guide to Understanding User Interface Design Rules, GUI Bloopers 2.0: Common User Interface Design Don’ts and Dos, Web Bloopers: 60 Common Design Mistakes and How to Avoid Them, and GUI Bloopers: Don’ts and Dos for Software Developers and Web Designers; coauthor of Conceptual Models: Core to Good Design; and President and Principal Consultant at UI Wizards

UXmatters is a … Webzine focusing on UX, with a talented team of practitioners/writers. You will find a wide spectrum of topics related to UX, including Information Design and Usability. … The articles published are of a very high quality and extremely thought provoking…. I would say UXmatters has got their article mix just right. It covers theory and practice, presents innovative ideas and practical solutions, and introduces abstract concepts as well as sound tips…. UXmatters certainly opens up the spectacular world of user experience matters. And yes, it convinces you that a great user experience really does matter!”—Dr. Meghashri Dalvi, in “Matters of User Experience,” published in the IEEE Professional Communication Society Newsletter, in November 2006
